Find Your Occupation

If you’ve ever come across one of the occupation lists in Australia, you’ve seen the word ANZSCO next to a skill level.

Well, technically, this is not a word. It’s an acronym for Australia and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations. Ok, but what does it really mean and how does it affect you?

ANZSCO is a system that collects, publishes and analyses occupation statistics across government agencies.

For migration purposes in Australia, these classifications are used by the Department of Home Affairs and Skills Assessment Authorities to dictate the baseline for the definition of occupations. In a nutshell, ANZSCO defines what is expected from you if you are applying for a Skills Assessment or a visa – it actually gives you a “position description”.
